Development milestones:

September     1983

First design studies - black widow - development started 

22nd June    1986

Presentation of the k1  prototype "K100VV" to the board of directors

January         1988

Release of the significant changes, the k1  design now close to the series

23rd March 1988

official operating permit by the German Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) 

1st Aug.       1988

Production of the first k1  -                start of pre-series production

20th Sep.     1988

Presentation of the k1  to the public at the IFMA in Cologne

April              1989

Production of the series k1  -         start of mass production

8-16th May  1989

Presentation of the k1  to the press in Italy, 50km south east of Rom

29th May      1989

Sales release / sales launch at local BMW dealerships

2nd Sep.        1993

Production of the last k1  - production ended

Production milestones:

Total of 6921 k1  have been produced between 1988 and 1993

1988:        12     =    0,17% - not sold
1989:    3700     = 53,46%
1990:    2032     = 29,36%
1991:      745     = 10,76%

1992:      296     =   4,48%

1993:      107     =   2,05%

Sales figures:
Approx. 2050  of the k1  have been sold in Germany
Approx.   676  of the k1  have been sold to America

Approx.   572  of the k1  have been sold to France

How many are left?

It is rather likely that <10% of  k1 s  remain on the road today globally!

The result of my global survey was that <700  k1  have left worldwide
